The CBS brass saw the finished film and recognized, in spite of themselves, that it would cause them some trouble out in the flyover country. How to drop it? There are agreements to keep, contracts to fulfill, promises, lunch appointments to celebrate, but, in the end it's better to drop it, and in any event, finished flicks get dropped all the time for various reasons. That's how these businessmen decided to leak the script and wait for the reaction to give them cover to drop it. Corporate suits never act until they've got cover! Whatcha think?
