Columnists' Corner

"What the Democrats Won't Tell You"

By Ron Marr

We are now approaching the beginning of the race for the Oval Office. As usual, the same tired old candidates are trotting out the same tired old clichés. This is particularly true of the Democrats, who once again are focusing their message on those who wish something for nothing, those who do not value work or sacrifice, those who contribute the least and consume the most. They are parroting the heinous line they have utilized for decades. No matter if the speaker is Dean, Clark, Kerry, Lieberman, Gephardt or Edwards, the diatribe is the same. "You haven't been treated fairly. We will make sure you get your fair share."

Hogwash! Can we please put an end to that age old whine that "life's not fair." Of course it's not fair; I think I knew that by about age six. Moreover, it can't be made fair, despite what the politicians would have you believe. Sometimes opportunity kicks open the door and sits down for supper, picking its teeth and belching profusely. Sometimes it stays home watching re-runs of Gomer Pyle, slurping margaritas and scratching itself. All men may be created equal, but equality pretty much ends at conception. After that, you're on your own.

The examples are glaring; the Democrats wish to pit the rich (by whom they mean anyone with a job) against the poor (those on welfare). On October 3rd, Kerry stood on the floor of the Senate and actually suggested that the more prosperous Americans should help pay the $87 billion dollar supplemental spending request for the war in Iraq.

"It's not unfair to ask those that earn the very most - those many fortunate, talented and hardworking Americans earning more than $300,000 - to sacrifice some of their tax cuts in order to promote a free Iraq; to reduce some of the burden being placed on future generations; and help sustain education, health care, and homeland security," said Kerry.

Yes, it is unfair Senator. If such people wish to volunteer money they earned, fine. But it is no more fair to steal their funds by government mandate than it is to take the last ten bucks from the night janitor at McDonalds. A crook is a crook, no matter if he rips off a million bucks or a hundred.

More? Dick Gephardt, on his "Gephardt for President" web site, tell us that he has "a lifelong history fighting for issues that matter most to working families: good jobs, FAIR wages, and a level playing field." He also says that "as president, he will "make health care affordable for all working Americans, create a universal pension plan to follow workers from the moment they are born to the moment they retire, and he will continue to defend the rights of American workers."

Wow...Dick says he will make things fair from cradle to grave. The man would have made a good Marx brother. I'm referring to Karl Marx, of course. Not Groucho

Let's see, Howard Dean expounds that "instead of working to create shared prosperity for all, this administration and the right-wing ideologues that surround it continue to pursue a narrow agenda designed to help their friends, while leaving the rest of America behind."

Shared prosperity? I guess that means taking from those who sweat and toil, and giving to those who spend their days hanging out at the local bar. But then again, In Dean's view, and that of his fellow Democrats, "shared prosperity" is defined as appropriating money from people with jobs and giving to those who support the Donkey party with votes, no matter how lazy or shiftless they happen to be

That's probably enough; you get the idea. Check out the speeches and press releases of every Democratic candidate and you will find a very similar theme. The promises revolve heavily around wealth re-distribution and class warfare. Toss in a smidgen of race-baiting and you have the Democratic campaign strategy in a nutshell.

What the Democrats won't tell you is that they seek to control every aspect of your life...to toss you scraps and bones in exchange for your support and praise and liberty. They won't tell you that in order to live, and live with joy, you have to have something (or several somethings) that trip your trigger. You have to try, you have to fail, you have to dust yourself off and try again WITHOUT the assistance of Big Brother. They will not tell you that it is up to you to make your own success, or that it is dishonorable to steal the rewards earned by another.

Nothing in life is fair; that's a truism the Democrats will never admit.

For they think you're fairly stupid.

Mother should I run for president?
Mother should I trust the government?
Mother will they put me in the firing line?
Ooooh Ahh
Is it just a waste of time?

Hush now baby, baby, dont you cry.
Mama's gonna make all of
your nightmares come true.
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you.
Mama's gonna keep you right here under her wing.
She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing.
Mama's gonna keep baby cosy and warm.
Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe,
Of course Mama's gonna help build the wall.

This says it all! It seems to me that what we see, as conservatives, in liberalism is a pathology. Yet, this pathology has a fundamental social element. It is as if the pathology needs its host to interact with other infected hosts in order to thrive...lest common sense creep in and burst the bubble of of mass delusion.

Lessee, $87 billion divided by 300 million = $290. Where do I write my check?
