Other states have been doing this for years (they may do this down here in SC, I'm not sure). I understand wanting to slow people down driving through construction zones, but you know there's some good old-fashioned revenue enhancement going on here too. It's the same old same old--set the speed limit below what people drive, and rake in the cash. Nice racket.

How many years have they spent constructing that highway? We have roads in Texas that have been under construction for over seven years, I-45 between Dallas and Houston around Corsicana being one example. When are motorists who are taxed out the wazoo going to demand that these roads be completed before they die?
To: SheLion
They included an Isuzu Trooper with a kayak rack going 79 mph; a red Jetta with New Hampshire plates doing 77 mph, and a van with contractor racks clipping along at 83 mph. I've driven that road many times. 80 mph is a reasonable speed and traffic actually travels around 80. Driving slower or faster than the 80 mph area would be dangerous.

It is taking longer to add one lane than it took to build the originl turnpike.

Last weekend I drove I-95 from Baltimore to Charleston, SC and back and I think my average speed was around 80-85 mph. I almost did not have a choice. Everyone was going that fast, especially 18 wheelers. As long as everyone agrees to go the same speed, it seems pretty safe to me. The problems occur when someone wants to drive 100 and another person wants to go 60.
Here in Maryland the cops have been doing the disguise thing for a while.

Hrmph, that will make a 5 minute dismissal .... if it takes that long.

"It's not entrapment, it's just unconventional enforcement," I have a real problem with this concept, and it is not just related to speed limits.

It is taking longer to add one lane than it took to build the originl turnpike. Tell me about it! I've been in northern Maine since 1983 and have YET to see the interstate extend beyond Houlton. From Houlton on up it's nothing but a windy two lane road with many little bergs. You get up to 55 then back down to 30. It's nerve wracking. Truckers HATE coming up here, just because of that darn road from Houlton on up. It's disgusting.

I'll get word to Duck.
What this proves is its all about the sheckles. Unmarked cars and airplanes don't slow traffic, marked cars do.

What about on a holiday when the construction workers are off, Maine is famious for that. In Mass a State Trooper (tax agent on traffic duty), on radar duty, 24 stops an hour, no quota here.
