"Republican Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida called a special session of the state legislature on October 20 to pass a law tailored to save a 39-year-old St. Petersburg woman—who is brain-damaged but suffering no life-threatening illness—from court-ordered starvation.

This is not how it happened. The Florida Legislature was in special session to vote on a grant to a corporation for locating in South Florida.

Just so happens, when this issue came up.

Yes, had the legislature not already been in a one or two-day special session on Oct. 20, Terri would have already died. We came within hours of losing her for good.

It should also be noted that "change the law" is what a judge says everytime something happens in their court sombody does not like.

"don't like my ruling? Write your legislator to change the law." is the routine statement.

Well, the people did just that. If the judges do not like the law, perhaps THEY should write their legislator.
