Why is anybody surprised. We speak of nations as being Christian, Jewish (Israel only), Moslem, Hindu... It is only a religious tradition we have.
We live in a Christian nation. There are many who would identify themselves as Christian, but only because that is their family heritage. True Christianity requires a relationship with Jesus Christ, and a desire and integrity to be like Him. That integrity is not important, is a sad commentary on our society.
Fortunately, God is worried about the polls. It isn't important how popular God is with people. What is imporatnt is how popular you are with God.

What is imporatnt is how popular you are with God. I'm agnostic, but one of my favorite lines from a book is from Stephen King's "The Stand". Nick Andros, a young deaf mute, is telling an old religious woman (Mother Abagail) that he doesn't believe in God. She laughs and answers "That don't matter! He believes in YOU."

(Talking about racism is not racist. Being afraid to talk about racism enables the real racists.)

...I am a child of the King. That makes me a Prince. That's my heritage.
