News is hard upon learning the lads were coming home and leaving the war sector.
In late WW-2....A U.S. Destroyer had survived the leathal period of the Japanese Kamikaze campaign off Okinawa.
July 28th 1945...at Midnight..another U.S. Destroyer would arrive to relieve USS Callaghan..she would head Stateside.
In the dark..an obsolete Japanese float plane with a bomb sneaked in on the Callaghan and suicided the ship...the bomb detonated in the engine room..Callaghan began to come apart from internal explosions.

47 of her crew perished..many wounded.
Callaghan was moments away from being relieved.

War can bring these terrible outcomes that seem so unfair.
America has what it takes to overcome ...She did so in the past.

She will today.
