CHICAGO, Oct 30, 2003 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- An Illinois state lawmaker wants to ban obesity suits against fast-food chains. Rep. John Fritchey, a Chicago Democrat, said he realizes obesity is a major problem that must be dealt with. But at the same time, he adds, "There's an issue of personal responsibility involved, and we have to acknowledge that."
Fritchey plans to introduce in January legislation he calls "the Illinois Commonsense Consumption Act" -- the latest push by the restaurant industry to limit its legal exposure from a wave of obesity-related lawsuits across the country, the Chicago Sun Times said.
Congress is already considering at least two measures that would do essentially what Fritchey would like to see in Illinois. Louisiana is the only state to adopt such a law, which it did last year.

How do you feel about feeding third world countries "fastfood"?

Huh. When I saw "Obesity Suits" I thought it had something to do with the Muumuu that Homer Simpson wore in that episode where he balooned to 350 pounds...

First thing to do: kill all the lawyers.

How about an "idiot rule of law". If you are an idiot you abdicate your right to sue. (see also Darwin Award)

misquote. The quote comes from a group of men discussing how they are going to overthrow the king. Their solution was to eliminate any defense citizens may have against the illegality of the coup by killing all the lawyers.
Consider: Every totalitarian country has had a consititution. Every one. USSR, Nazi germany, Saddam's Iraq, Cuba... Not every country has a means of enforcing or redressing grievances based on those constitutions. There was no legal defense against a USSR government action.

That's outrageous! What are overweight people supposed to wear?!

You're right. It was a misquote. And of course, merely a poor attempt at humor.
Seriously though, the unchecked power of the trial lawyers is sapping our economic growth and robbing us of our freedom to innovate.
These lawyer-dogs must be brought to heel. You don't kill a dog who poops on the living-room rug... you adjust it's behavior.
Trial lawyers are in sore need of behavioral adjustment.
