VIRGINIA BEACH A woman in a clown costume and multicolored, curly wig robbed a Bank of America Thursday morning.
Police say that at 11:30 a.m., the clown handed a teller at the Bank of America in the 3300 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard a note demanding money. The teller gave the woman the money.
Police described the suspect as wearing white face paint and a multicolored clown costume at the time of the robbery. The wig was red, yellow and purple. The woman also was wearing a red or maroon undershirt, white gloves and white shoes. She is described as being between 5-feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches tall and between 140 and 170 pounds.
She was carrying a blue backpack.
The bank employees said they were not alarmed initially when the costumed woman entered the bank, said Virginia Beach police spokesman Don Rimer.
They didnt think it was unusual to see a clown because its the day before Halloween, and people are having parties, he said. They thought it was unusual that the clown robbed the bank.
Police say a taxi took the woman to the bank from the Collins Square Shopping Center in the 4000 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. The same taxi returned the suspect to the shopping center.
Rimer said police had interviewed the cab driver and do not consider that person an accomplice.
Through interviews with bank employees, police determined that the woman likely had a weapon, Rimer said.
Although the female clown did not display or imply that she had a weapon, police say she should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police are interviewing local costume shops and urge anyone with information on the crime to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. The case remains under investigation.

They thought it was unusual that the clown robbed the bank. That's what they get for believing clowns are upstanding citizens.

You should always be alarmed when a clown enters your building...they are evil and up to no good, like scaring young children....

There are plenty of clowns around this area, but most of them are on the road.
