Referring to Jews as "plague carriers" didn't suggest some kind of racial, biological smear to you?He doesn't refer to Jews as Plague carriers. He refers to liberals as plague carriers. He actually praises and shares his respect for Orthodox Jews and conservative Jews.
The plague-carriers, so to speak, are the secularized, liberal, middlebrow Jews whose vulgarity sets the tone for American politics, public discourse, and popular culture.
I don't know why this statement is racist. Replace Jews with blacks. Would you call that an anti-black statement? No.

I consider anti-Semites who masquerade as conservatives to be plaque carriers.

You have a point that he praises some Orthodox Jews, but it remains true that he singles out Jews in particular as corrupters of society, and uses the unfortunate expression "plague carriers." For another take on where Sobran is coming from, see my post #94.

Let's do just what you suggest:
The plague-carriers, so to speak, are the secularized, liberal, middlebrow blacks whose vulgarity sets the tone for American politics, public discourse, and popular culture.
I don't have to be black to see the above as utterly racist. I don't see how you can see Sobran as anything other than anti-Semetic. I agree with another poster: if you can't see it you have less sense than a crabapple.
