I had just finished reading the book lately. As soon as I read that the movie was about guns rather than tobacco, I thought (still think) I knew they had taken the book and (since the tobacco thing was old hat by now)used "guns" as the bad thing instead. In the book, the woman on the outside of the jury (whose boyfriend is in the jury and trying to guide things the way he wants them to go) is a woman whose parents died from diseases brought on by their choice to smoke. She seeks revenge, persuades the tobacco side she can get them the verdict they desire, is paid off to do so, and then turns the verdict against the tobacco side instead. The tobacco side cannot really complain because what they were doing was illegal in the first place. She takes the money, uses it to do all kinds of trading in the stock market to inflict damage on the tobacco companies (making a killing in the process), and then gives the initial money back. I don't know how closely the movie follows all that, with guns instead of tobacco. For anyone that read the book, did I sum it up OK?

The worst thing about this excremental movie is the way it was re-targeted from "big tobacco" to "big guns" because that happens to be the current bete noir of the liberal Hollywood establishment. It was supposed to be entertainment, not some kind of social policy statement! They did this with the latest Clancy novel/movie as well, when they changed the terrorists from Militant Mideastern Muslims to European Nazis.
They trashed that, and I made the mistake of spending money to see the result. Not this time.

Read the book, and skip the movie. It's far, far better entertainment, lasts longer, and costs a lot less if you get it from the library. Save your money.
