Bush Labels Aide Rice the 'Unsticker'
WASHINGTON - President Bush gave his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, a new job description Tuesday: the White House's "unsticker."
The White House recently set up, under Rice, a new National Security Council oversight group over Iraq.
The move prompted speculation that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld had been sidelined, despite the Pentagon's continuing authority over the U.S. mission in Iraq. It also led to much talk of how Rice, one of Bush's most powerful and trusted advisers, performs her job.
Bush was asked what changed with the creation of Rice's new group. He did not directly answer the question, but suggested her Iraq oversight was a natural outgrowth of her job description.
"The role of the national security adviser is to not only provide good advice to the president, which she does on a regular basis," the president said during a Rose Garden news conference, "... but her job is also to deal inter-agency and to help unstick things that may get stuck. That's the best way to put it. She's an unsticker."
With Rice, arms crossed in front of her chest, watching from the sidelines, Bush added, to laughter: "Is she listening? OK, well, she's doing a fine job."

There are unique "public servants" in each administration...Dr. Rice is one of the most unique and interesting in the past 25 years...do you agree?

Yes. But I also agree that you need to post articles to the topics with a bit more care. This is not a breaking news story, nor is it an announcement, an editorial, or fit for extended news. Please see
this thread for some pointers. Thanks, and welcome aboard.

"unsticker" We use a term with a little more color in it than that where I work, but it means the same thing ;~)

I know somebody who went to school with Condi Rice - a sorority sister even. She confirms that Condi is amazing (which we knew, but it's nice to have direct confirmation).

She's maybe the most "interesting" member of any administration since a previous National Security Adviser, Henry Kissinger. "Interesting" in a positive sense, of course, as in someone with academic credentials that are mind boggling.
On the other side, Craig Livingstone might make a list as another "interesting" appointee. What his "credentials" were other than former bouncer are a mystery. Who in fact turned over the rock he was under and brought him into the White House isn't. She's currently filling (maybe more than filling) a seat in the US Snate.

Well, as much as I admire and appreciate Dr. Rice, this article reads as nonsense.
Dr. Rice has a great future in U.S. Politics.

wouldn't "facilitator" be a better word I think W purposely used UNSTICKER to imply that Dr. Rice has more clout than just a facilitator. Unstickers imply having the power to muscle people to get moving, if they are stuck. That's quite a compliment to Condi from President GWB. She maybe the most powerful NS Adviser ever in any administration.
