I love that town and the idea of it being lost makes me cry. I hope it will be spared somehow (and the Firefighters making a stand in town will be allright)

Exactly. The area surrounding it must have been less impacted. This is a sad night all around. I heard Guatay and Pine Valley were mostly intact.

From SignonSanDiego.com website.

Associated Press
Members of the Los Padres hot shot crew stand in front of a backfire outside Julian.

Battle for Julian

Evacuations continue as flames press toward Julian, Descanso, Palomar Mtn.

Firefighters struggle to keep flames away from Julian after fire moving along a miles-wide front destroys the community of Cuyamaca. Other blazes burn toward Palomar Mountain and jump south across Interstate 8 at Descanso.

It's the same damage in SoCal as if a volcano erupted.

Yeap we do. I'll hit the hay soon myself. I got 7 hours last night plus turned the corner on a headcold I've been fighting, so I'm feeling good tonight. I wanna see if the solar flare is going to whack us at midnight!

It is a pretty large facility as I recall. The town of Crest lost something like 200 homes and Harbison Canyon lost 100.
