You're right, the reception is much worse than it has been. Maybe the wind shift is messing up the reception to the relay station? The local scanner I have here next to me has much more static, too.
Don't forget midnight is an estimated solar-flare time.

Eaton Canyon isn't part of the Angeles forest, or if it is, only the northern part of it is. It's a public park on the eastern area of Altadena. Spent many fond hours hiking there (and dodging rattlesnakes there) when I was a kid growing up in Altadena.

Sign On San Diego is reporting that the entire town of Cuyamaca (approx 100-150 homes) was destroyed. Cuyamaca is next to Cuyamaca Lake, south of Julian (and south of the town of Harrison Park, which was also completely destroyed).

Howdy back atcha!

The solar flares shouldn't effect the radios on the scanner freqs. The flares effect HF (High Frequency) bands, Fire and cops are using UHF (Ultra High) band, VHF (Very High) and trunking channels up in the 800 mhz band.

He and his fellow FFs have my prayers always.
We make a huge attempt to show awe and respect to our local guys here in the neighborhood. And in turn, when we needed them last January, they performed admirably and made us feel safe (my 11-yr-old had a bad reaction to a medication and we called them).

Below is a photo of the burn map from the USFS information center in San Bernardino. It is accurate as of 4 PM Tuesday. This is for the western portion of the Old Fire.
East portion....Red Line indicates burn Mon-Tues

On the map you're showing of Altadena, see how there's a northern border-type road visible? That road would be New York Drive, and while there's a lot of Altadena north of that road as well, Eaton Canyon Nature Center is off of that road all the way at the northeastern corner, right before the road turns southward and heads into Pasadena. People hike up beyond the nature center all the time.

Well, you've got them. And your post just reinforces what we all already know -- he's a hero and heroes are obviously raised by great parents. You hang in there and rely on the same faith that got him where he is.

THanks for keeping this going. It's my best way to keep up on the fires.
