Well, we have a former black President, with nothing but time on his hands. Well, almost nothing but time on his hands.

Harare denies Mugabe flight for treatment

(Filed: 29/10/2003)
The Telegraph (UK)

The Zimbabwean government denied yesterday that President Robert Mugabe had been secretly flown to South Africa for medical treatment after collapsing.

Diplomats said they had heard that he was in a military hospital. Security analysts said they had been told that the South African air force had flown him in.

"These rumours are all wishful thinking," Simon Khaya-Moyo, Zimbabwe's envoy to South Africa, said. "President Mugabe is in good health and he is attending to his official engagements."

But Aziz Pahad, South Africa's deputy foreign minister, said: "We had no official notification that he was in South Africa," leaving open the possibility of an unofficial trip.
