Can someone help an East Coast guy with a limited view of the LA area??

I have a sister in Pasedena...... my 85 year old mother says she's in no danger cause she's northwest of LA, but it seems from some posts and maps that some fires are northwest of LA already Simi Valley??)..

Can someone let me know where Pasadena is in relation to all the fires and confirm whether of not Pasedena is in danger at the moment (or near future)???

Thanks!

Pasadena, CA is 18 miles west of my current position (Glendora), and is in no danger whatsoever of anything but smoke. Your sister is fine. The closest fire to your sister currently is approximately 45 miles west as the crow flies - and the fire has no possibility of spreading those 45 miles unless it can go through seventeen to twenty cities. :)

(Grumble. Having a hard time convincing my media-crammed mind to shut off...)

Oh, and I forgot to add that Pasadena is northeast of LA, not northwest of LA.

Pasadena is getting off very easy during this fire event. We have had one day of some high level smoke, but basically we have missed it. The winds the past few days have been blowing to the SouthWest, so the smoke is missing us.

The mountains on the north side of Pasadena are also fairly bare of large scrub brush -- since they all burnt off about ten years ago. (That fire took fifty or so homes.)
