Mohave and other desert dwellers will be able to relate to this... here in the upper Antelope Valley on any given night, I can see a billion stars straigt up, and lots of lights off in the distance -- some as far away as 20 or 30 miles. Tonight, there is ZERO long range visibility. No Palmdale lights, no Hesperia/Phelan twinkling, no Lake Los Angeles. It's as black as tar... like drifting in outer space or something.

Yuck. Maybe it's time for me to call my friend in Hesperia and make sure she's still alive and kickin' under the smoke...

I just took a walk outside. It's otherworldly. and smells TERRIBLE. You can taste the acrid smokiness on your lips. You can hear the air is different -- like if you go outside when it's snowing.
