Better just close those eyes and get some rest.

I am going down here pretty quick.

I hate that up all night feeling when I have the 6-7a.m. shift but I do get my zzzzz normally from 8 ish a.m. to Noon.

Our typing skills after all these hours and at this early hour reminds me of the first all nite threads of the troops moving into Iraq.

Well it seems the news folks have picked up on this disaster so my guess is the East Coast early birds will start posting soon.

That is what I like about starting new threads at Midnight so the East Coasties can pick up relatively fast on the updates while enjoying their first sips of Java.

I've been lurking in NZ for about the last 12 hours. My husband is a native Californian (35+ years) and he said it's caused a flood of memories. I can tell it's really effecting him. We have family and friends around San Diego and L.A. I appreciate all the great updates and reports.

Well, if it helps any, tell him that no matter what happens in terms of fire damage, we'll rebuild. We're stubborn folks that way, after all. :)

Keep on lurking! There'll be more info. (Although, in my case, I'm going to try to go back to bed again - it's 3am California time, and boy am I wiped out.)

Update from Rim High teacher's web blog:

Updates since 2:42am (PDT)

The fight of Twin Peaks and Rim Forest.
Scanners have slowed; still waiting for any new posts.
They are trying to bring MORE crews up.

- LA teams arrived to help; need coordination though.

- Update from scanner: Pine Lane, structures are still threatened. When fire originally hit RimForest and Twin Peaks, it was raging. They are checking out the properties by the nursery (code 4). They are working on Blackfoot East to get familiar with the terrain, help keep the fire at/off the ridge.

- There were positive remarks about progress on the scanner, but it was unclear if it was for Twin Peaks/Rim Forest/18 or San Diego. At times, the fire on route Interstate 8 and 79 steps over the signals here. Please confirm (email me).

- 7 total strike teams will be fighting this evening. The rest are coming up now via 330 (from camp). Make that 8 now. Some could not sleep, so they will keep on fighting. Three type-3 strikes are included, especially for structure protection.

- I heard the first update... a chief said he just drove 189 ''all the way down'' and the fire hadn''t crossed it at all, and it was ''holding at the top of the ridge'' -- presumably near Strawberry Peak." [Daniel]

- Another message board to use: http://cafires.proboards23.com/index.cgi
- Satellite picture link for OSEI Image.

- 18 is blocked by a landslide; all equipment has to come up 330.

- "just spoke to a deputy, He went by Ultimar about 25 minutes ago and it was still ok; fire teams fighting. Twin peaks is still ok at the police station as well as homes on Sun Set." [message board]

- There are some residents who refuse to leave. This is dangerous. The authorities need their name, DOB, and dentist. 4 guys are trying to get to Twin Peaks from 18. They are being "snagged" now by CHP. The men said they were hiking down from Big Bear.

Can someone let me know where Pasadena is in relation to all the fires and confirm whether of not Pasedena is in danger at the moment (or near future)???

Pasadena is getting off very easy during this fire event. We have had one day of some high level smoke, but basically we have missed it. The winds the past few days have been blowing to the SouthWest, so the smoke is missing us.

The mountains on the north side of Pasadena are also fairly bare of large scrub brush -- since they all burnt off about ten years ago. (That fire took fifty or so homes.)

Then Arcadia's still okay???? My daughter lives there. Also, how's San Dimas? Heard something yesterday about possible brush fire out there? Have family there, too.

I am in Arcadia. Doing ok out here. We had a fire last year in Glendora called the curve fire. It has kinda insulated us, because it burned the fuel that would have been coming along from the SB fire.

West Covina is doing fine too. It is far enough away from the foothills to be more secure than Arcadia.
