Her focus, she says, is "to enjoy my time now, not as a complete adult - just yet." Something tells me that she'll still be approaching life the same way when she's 46.

but how does this jibe with the homosexual agenda to remove the age of consent?

Just another boo hoo hoo story. I've read these stories, hell you could write one of these stories about me (well you could have written it, years ago) and it's all a lot of bs.
After 30 years of an angst ridden "permanent teenager" existance in NYC, which was very much undermined by the birth of my child, I moved to New Jersey. Here I encountered people who got married, bought houses, had jobs, had children, and never even once stared into their navels. Maybe the fact that they never went to college helped them grow up.
No dis to you wheel, but these folks need to get over themselves, and stop "thinking who they are" as they say in Hudson County.

I think it depends on the "adult", since several 20 year olds I know, including myself, are responsible people who effectively handle our own affairs, and several 40 plus year olds I know are completely incompentent.

I remember when I was first on my own. The only things I had in my arsenal of Dealing With The Great Big World Out There was what my parents had taught me during my first 18 years of life.
I was so busy paying bills, hitting garage sales looking for furniture to populate my little one-bedroom apartment, and trying to keep my car working so I could get to work, that I didn't have time to worry about whether or not I "felt like a grown-up."
Kids these days...

What would (did) Jesus do? He stayed with his "parents" until he was 30, didn't he? What was He doing all that time?

...21, the modern-day age limit for drinking alcohol...
The author needs to get a clue. Millions of Americans continue to imbibe long after they pass the age of 21.

"I just graduated from law school, I've been in a relationship with my significant other for over seven years, and I'm buying a house - and none of that makes me feel like a grown-up," says Daniel Gluck, a 27-year-old who lives in Honolulu. "But I'm starting to lose my hair and that's beginning to make me feel grown up pretty quickly." Nah. Get married and have a kid. A few nights without sleep before you have a filing on a summary judgment response will grow you up really quickly.
Noone grows up voluntarily. The little chicks have to be pushed from the nest. And then, with few exceptions, kids are the turning point into adulthood.
Maybe the delayed adulthood today is just due to the fact that many factors are leading to later parenthood.

As a late 30 something, I think I agree with the "late twentysomethings" that Adulthood really starts somewhere in the late 20s.
I'm not trying to detract from you, some people have their affairs in order by then, however, the vast majority don't.
I was entirely on my own by 22, but I didn't feel like I had all my affairs in order until I was 26 and really even then didn't feel it till I got married at 28.
There's alot involved in becoming "an adult" and it's more than making your own way. It has alot to do with problem solving, relationship building, getting a career job rather than a paycheck, etc. Some folks do it early on, most don't though.

...The 18 - 28 year old American men and women in Iraq might disagree with that statement.

It's kind of silly to think that something as ineffable as human "maturity" would simply be a function of age or biology. Obviously, to me at least, it was the experiences I have had and the responsibilities I have taken on (and had placed on me) that have moved me toward feeling "mature." If these kids are waiting until they feel mature to start experiencing some of the life events of adulthood, they'll likely be children for quite some time.
