WASHINGTON -- President Bush said Monday that U.S. progress in Iraq is making insurgents more "desperate" and spurring attacks such as the bombings at the international Red Cross headquarters and four police stations across Baghdad that killed dozens of people.
"The more progress we make on the ground, the more free the Iraqis become, the more electricity that's available, the more jobs are available, the more kids that are going to school, the more desperate these killers become," Bush told reporters at the White House.
He said those who are continuing to engage in violence "can't stand the thought of a free society. They hate freedom. They love terror. They love to try to create fear and chaos."

Other articles quote Shiite leaders on the Iraqi Council urging US to train the new Iraqi Police and Army quickly. One member gave a hint as to how the terrorist will be dealt with. He noted that current rules of engagement are too lenient and he was willing to use more ruthless methods to crush the insurgents. I think the Iraqi Shiites have info who and what Sunni families/communities support the attacks. They are chomping at the bit to get back. Unfortunately for them, the US forces cannot use these "ruthless" methods without triggering an Arab vs US problem. Iraqis will accept Arab on Arab violence. I hope GWB take note of this Shiite (name was Rabii) council member comment. Let us back him and his Shiite fraction plus the Kurds, and crush the Sunni inspired and foreign backed terrorism. Learn from Pax Roma, rule and fight by proxy!!

Exactly - I think that comment was a first in that arena. I hope GWB and his advisors take note and let things flow. The only way we can do this thing is to get help from Iraqis - they know who is causing the trouble and where to find them. We need Iraqi Kit Carsons, then let the Delta, CIA SAS and USASF folks take over in the night...
