I'm in Orange County...where the fires are basically all around us...the Camp Pendelton and San Diego fires to the south and the Claremont/Old/Devore fires to the north. And now we're hearing that there may be some fires starting up in Laguna Hills and Laguna Beach. Half the people here are work have bolted and gone home to see if they can even reach home. So YES, I do know exactly what the fires are doing. I have ash on my car and I'm breathing the smoke with every breath. This is not the time to play politics. Doofus is doing it because he's incompetent and doesn't know any better. Let him hang himself on his own rope.

You need to start your own thread on that topic. I think most people, on this thread, are more worried about the fire than the politics of the 04 election right now. Just my 2 cents.

If Arnold goes, he should pick the time to announce new disaster and homeland security coordinators for our state.
We're still dealing with the shock of the disaster that is occurring.
The trauma will last for a long time.
If the GOP wants to lead, they'd better start today.

The last I heard Big Bear was being evacuated, so I'm assuming that the Old Fire has shifted slightly and is now headed up the mountain.

That area of of the 15 freeway keeps being posted as having "new" fires.

I'm in OC, too, in my office in the Wells Fargo building across from the airport. Where did you hear about a fire in Laguna. It did feel too good to be true to be the only county without a fire. Can you let me know what you hear? Thanks.

Isn't this trying to make everything political what the dems are accused of? Yes, you're right, they are.
But the political climate in CA right now is new ground. People who have never voted before registered just to vote for Arnold, and they are watching to see what he's going to do. It's these voters, these who are very moderate, or are apolitical who need to be reached right now. It doesn't have to be much, but it has to be something that will stay in the minds of people later - rather than Davis' posturing. And right now, all they have to remember other than the fires, is Davis was here. He cared enough to try and do something.
And Davis is telling everyone that the feds haven't bothered to respond, not that he delayed. Where is the rebuttal?

Please keep to the subject of the fires.

LAPD cruiser announces that it is alright for residents to return to their homes in the Chatsworth section of Los Angeles, as a wildfire sends plumes of smoke into the air in the background, Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Simi Valley, Calif.
Los Angeles firefighters, Albert Vargas, left, Mullen Martin, watch a fire at Rocky Peak Park, Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, in Sami Valley, Calif. The 80,000-acre blaze in suburban Simi Valley, 35 miles Northwest of Los Angeles, jumped the highway and came within yards of several homes before firefighters began to get the upper hand. Schools in the city were closed by the fire.
Smoke from the wildfires burning across Southern California surround the San Fernando Valley as a large plume of smoke rises from the Old Fire, in San Bernardino, Calif., 50 miles east of Simi Valley Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 . The thick smoke from the wildfires burning across Southern California, pushed by the stiff winds stoking the flames over the greater Los Angeles metropolitan region, has sparked widespread health warnings.

You idiots!
The very reason the Democrats win the popular votes is that they SHOW UP at the centers in order to give people the confidence they need in gov't.
The fact that the COP politicians NEVER show up... well that's what gets the GOP a clean sweep in 11/02 OUT OF OFFICE.
If there is a time for "compassionate conservatism", IT IS NOW.

The Old/Waterman area fires look smaller now. Maybe it's just that the San Diego ones look so much bigger...
