let's not give extremist Arabs a reason to hate us even more than they do. I don't buy into that. The logical outgrowth of that appeasement philosophy only emboldens the Islamofascists.
Besides, what would you think if someone insisted that women should not give rapists any reason to rape more; or that blacks shouldn't give the KKK any more reason to hate them; or that Jews shouldn't give the Nazis any more reason to hate them, so on and so forth.
Bottom line: it's not our fault that another culture wants to stay stuck in the 14th century while the rest of the world is at the dawn of the 21st.

Moreover it is a provocation to Moslem believers. Do we know if she is a moslem? If she's not ---- it's none of their concern.

And I do believe in modesty of dress for women and men anywhere. There are plenty of modest western women --- but it's not "modesty" in muslim countries, it's called fearing for their lives ---- they get shot in the head if they show their faces --- it's not a choice to be modest.

If most are the women are this beautiful, can you blame the Middle Eastern men for keeping them hidden? Who wants to share?
To: Stultis
Why are we proud that our women dress like prostitutes, adulterers, and fornatcators? Why are we happy to introduce it to other cultures?
Take a casual look at sacred scripture to learn what God brings to civilizations when the measure of their sin is full.
Those of you who joke and think this is a good thing are dangerously wrong. There is a God. He requires we behave decently and morally, specifically in matters of sexuality.
This generation will witness horrible events as a result of its choices and behavior.

I wonder why you object to a woman revealing her physical body, that God
did create. It is written that Adam and Eve were naked in Eden, only to find shame in their bodies after defying God, obeying Satan and eating of the "tree of knowledge". It is not God who finds shame in nudity; it is the influence of Satan and the initial defiance of God's commands that has brought about "prudishness".
BTW, rethink your statement that posters here are "modern promiscuous sex-promoting anti-religious bigots"
Your "shame" is your problem. Deal with it.

Therefore all islamics try to be child molesters. Simple to follow. Not all ---- but all defend the child rape that mohammed did ---- and didn't Iran lower the "age of consent" to a ridiculously low age after they booted out the Shah?

Should we exclude even the possibility of an enlightened version of Islam?Of course not. In my view, however, it is important to keep up the pressure against islamism (and islamic chauvanism more generally) and at the same time encourage and defend mainstream/moderate/modernist/secularist/traditionalist/minority sect muslims. The carrot and the stick should work together.
An overly tolerant (politically-correct/muliculturalist) approach to Islam ultimately provides space for the islamic extremists to disperse their poison, and allows them to slither into positions of leadership that are sponsored and recognized by the multiculturalist intelligencia, but not genuinely earned in the broader muslim community.
While individual muslims must be protected, and their individual and religious rights must be protected, Islam itself should NOT be protected from external criticism. Such criticism will serve, IMHO, to strengthen diversity, creativity and tolerance within Islam, and spur the development of internal criticism as well. This is what happened with Christianity, which both liberalized (in the best sense of the term) and realized renewed vigor and fecundity under the withering criticism of enlightenment skepticism.

Why don't you all go streak naked through Mecca? That'll show 'em, ignorant traditional religious believers who are not sophistocated enough to scoff at modesty and decency. Apparently ditching the burqa means that one has to immediately go to the thong.

Should we forbid any woman from a Muslim country ---- no matter how long ago she left that country or what her current religion might be or not be --- from entering any beauty pageants? I wonder how that would go --- all Arab, Persian, Egyptian ---- all women who might have any Middle Eastern ancestry ---- are now banned from participation --- no matter how much they as individuals wish to join in.

Please point out where I said ANYTHING ABOUT FORBIDDING ANYONE DOING ANYTHING? I am merely expressing my opinion based on several grounds. Apparently there is a political correctness even on Free Republic where one is not allowed to criticize displays of flesh.

I just don't think with muslims it is real modesty --- they fear too much for their lives --- modesty would be something involving free will. Besides --- to say a muslim in a burka is being modest would it then be right to say an African tribal woman with no shirt on is being immodest?

Besides --- the Afghan girl has one of the more modest bathing suits on --- look at Miss Argentina's suit right behind her --- it's much tinier --- so maybe the Afghans should be proud of her for that.
