A man was walking along a busy city street when he noticed an unusual item in a pawn shop window. It was a bronze rat. He walked inside and asked the proprietor how much it cost. "Twenty dollars" was the reply. The man purchased the bronze rat and continued along his way.
Suddenly he felt the presence of something behind him, and as he turned around he saw a group of a dozen rats following him. He began to walk faster. Nervously, the man turned his head again to see if the rats were still following him. This time he saw a hundred rats pattering along the sidewalk behind him. He began to run.
Pale and perspiring, the man looked behind himself again and this time there were one thousand rats running after him. He saw a utility pole and climbed up as fast as he could. Clutching the bronze rat he looked over into the Bay and tossed the thing into the water. Immediately the one thousand rats jumped into the Bay after the bronze rat and drowned.
The man shimmied down the pole and ran as fast as he could back to the pawn shop. He burst into the store and shouted at the proprietor, "Hey, you got any bronze lawyers for sale"?
