"When Evil Becomes Good "
By Doug Patton
As a Christian writer, I find myself torn between scriptures admonition to remain focused on the good and noble aspects of life and its warnings about society revering evil as good while reviling good as evil.
Last week, yet another outrage came out of the field we once proudly called education. The headline read: University Hosts Bondage Rope Class, with a subtitle, British Columbia school features 3-hour course on safety skills.
As Dave Barry would say, I am not making this up! And while all of us have known for some time that the inmates have been running the asylum at many of North Americas once-great institutions of higher learning, they keep testing our sensibilities with ever-increasing regularity.
The course is a workshop entitled Bondage 101. It is described as a special seminar to teach participants how to use ropes safely in a sexual context. (I didnt even want to know what is being taught in the follow-up course, creatively entitled Bondage 102.)
Of course, this perversion is being sponsored by a homosexual group. UVIC Pride describes itself as dedicated to representing queer, trans and intersex people and allies on campus. The workshop is facilitated by local bondage experts from the Sagacity Group of Victoria.
On its website, Sagacity describes itself as a place where folks that enjoy BDSM, alternative lifestyles, kink and fetish gather to talk, laugh, socialize, share, and learn. At Sagacity, we welcome each and every individual and rejoice in sharing our experiences and friendships.
An e-mail is sent to students enrolling in Bondage 101, providing students with useful information such as what type of rope to bring to class and the best places to purchase it, as well as instructions on how to cut and tape the ends.
Students also receive the following directive on what sort of clothing to wear for their lessons in sadomasochism: Loose, baggy garments can get in the way of ropes, and tight, constricting clothing is totally unsuitable Body suits, leotards, bathing suits are all excellent choices ... nudity is fun too but won't be an option until after the workshop when you go home wink!
Oh well, you say, thats just Canada for you. After all, they just legalized same-sex marriage, too. Theyre a little wacky up there. Well, yes they are, but dont feel too smug just yet. The Des Moines Register recently reported that a similar type of class is now being offered at the Iowa State University in Ames.
Thats right: in Iowa. At a taxpayer-supported state university.
To most Americans, this seems too bizarre to even take seriously. How many sick people of this ilk can there possibly be?
More than we care to believe, apparently. Last year, Ramada Inns in Michigan and Illinois hosted sadomasochistic conventions. One, called Vicious Valentine, held at the OHare Ramada in Chicago, is said to have broken numerous state laws.
At the Howard Johnson St. Louis Airport hotel, S & M enthusiasts participated in an orgy called Beat Me in St. Louis IV.
Not to be outdone, Hilton Hotels has hosted Tribal Fire seminars, which included the following fun and games: Suturing and Cutting, Body Punching, Humiliation and Objectification, Puppy Play, Branding, Pervertables (whatever that is), Fire Play, Electrical Play, Buying the Right Corset and male and female genital torture workshops.
The nation's largest homosexual lobby group, The Human Rights Campaign, has sponsored conferences for female-to-male transgenders. These little get-togethers included sessions on chest surgery for young women who want to have their breasts removed in their quest to become transmen.
Vomited yet? Theres more, much more, but I will spare you the details. This is the whirlwind we are reaping from our tolerance of alternate lifestyles.
Where will Americans draw the line? At pedophilia? At incest? At bestiality? At necrophilia? Homosexuals complain bitterly of discrimination and bigotry when these questions are raised, yet they are at the center of this movement to call good evil and evil good.
