I agree that teachers are underpaid and have to deal with reams of paperwork, but I absolutely do NOT agree that public schools are extremely "corrupt." How are they corrupt?

By asking this question you truly don't understand the administrative monster that is your school system. I will put my reply in the form of questions.

Do you believe that when a new school goes up in your district that the contractor was lowest bidder and most qualified?

Do you believe that items purchased (computers, software, supplies, air conditioners, etc...) by your school system are the the best deal and that administrators provided a fair opportunity for others to bid against their established suppliers?

Do you believe that either these suppliers or contractors mentioned above don't have political connections?

Do you believe that there is not a 'Good Ole Boy' hiring network in you school system that skirts the law?

Do you believe that when a teacher with internal school system political connections nears retirement, he does not recieve a cushy job?

Do you believe that no jobs are handed out due to national or local politics?

Do you believe that no external contracts (e.g. new teacher learning centers that are utterly useless) are handed out due to national or local politics?

If you answer yes to any of the questions above it would behoove you to open your eyes. The school systems across America reap with corruption. They tolerate business practices that are criminal.

The public school system is corrupt in that it uses its considerable political power, obtained through the teachers' union's lobbyists and corrupt judges, to thwart the will of the people, and to constantly increase the size of the educational bureaucracy.

In Oregon, we voted down a tax increase, despite the hand-wringing ads run by the corrupt teachers' union, but they managed to get the governor and legislature to sign a budget to raise taxes, so they can have an even fatter budget.

Now, as we collect signatures to reject that increase, teachers are using their classrooms to indoctrinate children into begging their parents to not sign the petition, and giving them propaganda printed up by the teachers' union that summarizes their position.
