Protesters gather on both coasts to condemn war

WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 — To chants of ''Impeach Bush,'' thousands of anti-war protesters rallied in the nation's capital Saturday and delivered a scathing critique of President Bush and his Iraq policy.

Demanding an end to the U.S.-led occupation and the quick return of American troops, the demonstrators gathered on a sunny fall day at the Washington Monument to listen to speeches and songs of peace.

I don't recall songs of peace on 9/10.

The D.C. chapter of Free Republic, an independent grass-roots conservative group, gathered a few dozen people at the U.S. Capitol to show support for Bush and the troops in Iraq.

Too cool...

yes, we know. It seems that most reporters will give a huge amount of coverage to the protests and throw in a line or two about the other side.

Some don't even bother doing that.

Organizers estimated that 100,000 people turned out for the demonstration, but police at the scene put the number much lower, from 10,000 to 20,000.

10,000, tops. I wandered by the protest to laugh at the hippies. The parks service had a protest area set up that could hold 50,000+ It was maybe 1/10 full.

The protest in Washington drew a diverse crowd — young, old, veterans, relatives with loved ones in the armed forces and American Muslims.

The crowd was maybe 95% white. Make of that what you will. The DC police officers near the protest were a much more diverse bunch.

No American Christians showed up for their side? Maybe I shouldn't be surprised...

We just watched a couple of minutes on CSPAN. I agree, 10K at the very most, including wanderers-by.

There were several Christian groups in the crowd. Granted, radical left-wing Christian groups, but Christian groups nonetheless.
