Because I've recently been diagnosed terminal (cancer) and because of Terri, I've been determing an advance directive. To my suprise, there is already an advance directive that forbides the withdrawl of hydration and nutrition. Meaning, there's nothing new about this at all, as I've been finding out. People are regularly being dyhydrated and starved to death in this country all the time, which is why it's such a struggle for Terri. We think it's exordinary, but it isn't.

I'm planning on making it exordinary by making sure that my advance directive is the one that makes it clear that I am *NOT* to be deprived of hydration or nutrution, or any other means to "speed me along," - even if I change my mind later because of pain. My family and friends will remind me and say no, and hug me and love me, but remember I really mean "no." Terri sshould live long after I do. I hope so!

May God bless you and give His peace that passes all understanding. Hang tight and pray for His loving care all the way...home, if it be His will.

Tit 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Oh, may God bless you! I am praying for you. There is a book called Power Over Pain, (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1974599&sourceid=1500000000000000294920) that I found helpful to read while trying to understand my husband's severe back pain, and it may help you address pain issues too, should they come up. Improperly managed pain, and people's fear of it, can perhaps lead some to choose a premature death, when the real issue may be doctors' failure to properly manage pain. I have never had to face severe pain (although I did have natural childbirth 3 times - my husband's chronic back pain seemed far worse to me) but if I ever did, I would certainly look for a physician who was experienced in Pain Management. Hope this is of some help.
