The White House has issued President Bush's annual greeting to Muslims around the world who will observe the holy month of Ramadan.
In his message, President Bush says Islam is a peaceful religion that has helped shape the character of the United States, and has made great contributions to the world.
Mr. Bush said Americans cherish the freedom to worship and, he said, "we remain committed to welcoming individuals of all religions."
During Ramadan, President Bush said Muslims fast, pray, contemplate and renew their commitment to lead lives of honesty, integrity and compassion.

I think it's fair to state in general, after reading this thread through, that many FReepers have had a bellyful of the PC pandering on this subject. It's as axiomatic now as it ever was - that the more we bend over to accomodate our enemies, the more we'll take it where the sun don't shine.

I'm still waiting for you to tell me which other Presidents have issued Ramadan greetings. It looks like the Evil One did:
"President Bill Clinton, a member in good standing of a Southern Baptist Convention Church, offered Ramadan greetings on the White House Web site (1/1/00 World). He said: 'As the followers of Islam celebrate the revelation of God's word to Muhammad, we join you in honoring his call for harmony and peace.'"

Yeah right. Any before that? And was that statement made before or after his state dept declared that the
DEATH OF US (USS COLE) SAILORS DOES NOT COMPARE TO PALESTINIAN TOLL That's my point. I would just like to see much more from the WH and state dept about the raging Jewhatred among Muslims/Arabs, to say nothing of the raging anti-Americanism, rather than the boilerplate pablum about Islam and "peaceful."

A friend of mine is a muslim (he's married to a Christian). He was born and raised in the Midwest but grew up in Saudi. He gave me some history on the people over there. The type of muslims that committed the attacks on America (he said) are a faction of lunatics. He said they are not the mainstream muslim (I guess your garden variety type muslim), and the mainstream muslims reject them. I guess it would be similar to what we have in America, where you have Christians who follow Christ and are born-again, but then there are the lunatic fringe types who use the title christian but have no faith, those being KKK, Aryan, etc.
I believe him when he said they reject those groups. However I do understand that Christianity that I accept and the Islamic faith are far different from each other.

Of those 13,000 serving, 5 or 6 are traitors, and from experience I can tell you many are "objectors".
They pulled that "CO" crap for Gulf War 1, and again in Somalia, and Bosnia.
Without fail.
Islam is a death cult.
We need to help them fulfill thier fantasy of dying for allah.

The post you quoted is sad but true concerning the Slickster's salute to Islam as well as the fact he was still a member of the SBC. Well, at least I don't believe he is still a member of the SBC.

Shudder. I hate Halloween, always so glad when it's over. Then the emphasis becomes Thanksgiving and Christman which are MUCH nicer holidays!
To: veronica
that many FReepers have had a bellyful of the PC pandering on this subject You got that exactly right. I have no personal animus against most Muslims, and I recognize that there are some peaceful Muslims. They just don't happen to be the ones running things in their religion, generally.
And I surely don't expect the president to denounce one of the world's major religions.
But, I've had it up to here with this silly pandering, as it is an insult to my intelligence, and the intelligence of other Americans, to pretend that Islam is, on the whole, a Religion of PeaceTM. It's just not.

Not to attack your Saudi friend directly, but what he said just flat out ain't true. The House of Saud supports terrorism around the world in numerous ways, by funding madrassas in numerous countries around the world (12,000 in Pakistan alone) which teach young Muslim warriors to hate and kill the infidels. There simply is no faction within Christianity or any other religion which even comes close in scope and extent to the terrorism given meaning by Islam.
I went to Enginnering School in the US with a large number of international students which included quite a few ME Muslims. Their hatred of Jews and Israel and our support of Israel I would say appears to be nearly universal. Almost every evidence we see from celebrating in the streets after 9/11 to polls in the ME contradict what your friend has stated.

Yeah, be careful for what you wish for. It may come in the form of a Semtex girdle, a Boeing express stop in a building or maybe a Pu239 firework.

Anyone who has any questions about Islam GET OUT THERE AND READ.
Since 911 I have read:
What went Wrong
Islam Unveiled
Among the Believers
Hatred's Kingdom
American Jihad
Sword of Islam
These are just off the top of my head. The more informed I have become the less impressed I have become with Islam as a religion and organizing principle of society.

As unpleasant as it may sound, there is a strategy behind constantly saying "Islam is a religion of peace". We want to spread that word around the world to try to create a break between the radical Muslims and the rest of them. Of course, you can't expect it to make a difference immediately but the goal is to turn the debate around within Islam. Worth a shot, imho.
