Democrats whining now.
Senate Minority Leader-D saying that:
"Today is a sad day. I buried a deputy sherriff who was shot by an assailant this week at a distance of 75 yards while responding to a domestic violence call".
WTF does that have to do with CCW?
Idiots.

Its a good sign. Looks like rural pro-gun Democrats joined the GOP for this vote. I think the votes are there to override a promised Jim Doyle veto.

Woot!
Thanks mate! I was looking for that.
Finalized text should be prettier.
I think I'm gonna go pop open some "bubbly" and get a cigar. I have lots of friends and clients in WI.

Thanks to Ed Thompson, Bingo Doyle (who is now Guv) will veto this.
I doubt if the legislature will override it. Hopefully they will, but I'm pessismistic.

Still a lot of work has to be done for this to become law. The 24-8 vote makes me more optimistic though.

WOW! Nice provision here, esp. for those of us from current CCW states visiting WI:
14. Treats a license or permit issued by another state in the same manner as a license issued under this bill.
The bill also establishes the following penalties for offenses relating to licenses to carry a concealed weapon.
First, a person who fails to carry his or her license document while carrying a concealed weapon may be required to forfeit $25.
Second, a person who is licensed to carry a concealed weapon and who carries a concealed weapon in a place where the license does not authorize him or her to do so may be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned for not more than 90 days or both. MY TEXT:READ NO FELONY PROVISION
Third, a person who does any of the following shall be fined not less than $500 nor more than $10,000 and may be imprisoned for not more than nine months: 1) intentionally makes a false statement in an application for a license; 2) intentionally fails to report being charged under federal law or the law of another state with any crime or any drunk driving offense within ten days after being charged; or 3) intentionally fails to relinquish a license document to a sheriff after the license has been revoked.

The 4 who voted against it need to learn to read the Second Amendment.
Text of the Second Amendment
"A well regulated Militia
being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
Anyone who actually reads AND understands the 2nd Amendment will see that there is no need or authority for any type of gun registration and there is no need for anyone to have to apply for a license to carry a gun.
Any political party, politician, judge (etc), organization or individual who trys to convince you that:
1) you must register a firearm
2) you must pass a background check
3) you must wait (x) amount of days before you can get your firearm
4) you need to have a license to carry a gun
is either uneducated about OUR rights as citizens
OR is actively working to undermine OUR country.
How Did the Founders Understand the Second Amendment?
CONGRESS in 1866, 1941 and 1986 REAFFIRMS THE SECOND AMENDMENT
The Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment right to keep and bear firearms,
originated in the United States Congress in 1789 before being ratified by the States.
On three occasions since then--in 1866, 1941, and 1986--
Congress enacted statutes to reaffirm this guarantee of personal freedom
and to adopt specific safeguards to enforce it.
ON THE DAY BEFORE Thanksgiving 1993,
the 103d US Congress brought forth a constitutional turkey.
The 103d Congress decided that the Second Amendment did not mean what it said
("...shall not be infringed") and passed the Brady bill.
How the Brady Bill Passed (and subsequently - "Instant Check")
When the Brady Bill was passed into law on November 24, 1993,
the Senate voted on the Conference Report
and passed the Brady Bill by UNANIMOUS CONSENT.
