Current law merely requires that employees present rudimentary ID and sign an "I-9"!

Correct. SS card and drivers license usually

Employers are not permitted to in quire further! IN FACT..., IF THEY DO, THEY ARE PRIME CANDIDATES FOR BEING SUED... THEY ARE VIOLATING THE "CIVIL RIGHTS" OF THOSE WHOM THEY ASK "UNLAWFUL QUESTIONS"!

Not exactly true. What my company does, (recent policy change) is run background checks on everyone. I don't care if we hire them to wash buckets, we run a background check.

We also never hire in directly anymore.

Does this cost us? Of course. But it is cheaper then what the INS can do to you.

What you can not do is cherry pick. That will bring the ACLU down on you and leave you longing for the comforting embrace of the IRS.

The illegals caught at Wal-Mart by the INS were all Whites of eastern European orgin.

Huh?

Shewairy did say the workers came from 18 nations and included 90 people from Mexico, 35 from the Czech Republic, 22 from Mongolia and 20 from Brazil.

That majority were not Whites of Eastern European orgin. They were Mexican as would be expected.

With their turnover... there is no way in hell that WalMart will do that. They will merely make sure that I-9s are on file!

As for INS (or DOL)..., if an employer has it's I-9s in order and has relied upon they veracity of the documents produced by the employee (regardless of how bogus) they are not going to be fined! If, however, INS (or DOL) can prove "intent to violate" (possibly through a sting operation) trouble can follow!

With the high turnover I expect walmart to go to the same system that we did and start everybody in as contract help for the first 90 days. This cuts down on walmart employee turn over and it makes it easier to weed out the ones who would not last.

Once you are ready to hire spending the money for a quick background check isn't so bad.

It is true the INS has to prove intent but you can spend a lot of money and even more time defending yourself while they try to prove it.

If they can establish a pattern even if they can't prove intent in the first case they can in the second. Because it is a sure thing that you will be raided again.

True..., in WalMart's case (according to media accounts) this is at least the third investigation for the same manner of violations and resulted as part of a "sting" operation. "Pattern or Practice" is a given!

Illegal labor is here to stay.

Businesses (small and large) like it (Cheap labor AND new consumers).

Government likes it (more dependents, more reasons to spend more money, more voters).

The people? Hell, they don't matter anymore.

Yeah there is a difference between legal and illegal immigration.

Illegal immigrants spit in the faces of legal ones.

Hey, all you have to do is go to the U.S. consulate in Mexico and renounce your citizenship. Hang in there; I'm trying to arrange your bus fare now.
