ATLANTA (AP) - A freshman honor student who was expelled for writing a fictional story in her journal about a student killing a teacher will be allowed to return to school on Monday.
After newspaper and broadcast reports about Rachel Boim's expulsion, the Fulton County School Board said Friday that it would reconsider its decision at a meeting Nov. 13 - but until then, Rachel will be allowed to attend Roswell High School.
The 14-year-old was expelled Wednesday, two weeks after a teacher confiscated her journal during an art class when she passed it to a friend. A story inside described a student who kills a teacher and then is fatally shot.
School system spokeswoman Susan Hale said the expulsion was for "inappropriate writings that describe the threat of bodily harm toward a school employee."
The expulsion came after a three-hour hearing with school officials, and despite support from the girl's parents and Georgia poet laureate David Bottoms.
"This piece of work is clearly an imaginative piece, a piece of fiction - totally nonthreatening," Bottoms told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for a Friday story.
Rachel's parents said their daughter's writing did not name a specific teacher, and describe their daughter as a gifted writer, not someone with violent intentions

Where is the ACLU in all of this, you know, freedom of speech and all of that stuff.
I'm a murder mystery fan and didn't realize that it was necessary for the authors of those mysteries to be over 18.

These folk try to be
proactive and they get tagged

This story reminds me of last month when my 9th grade daughter was depicted in cartoon form in a girl's journal she was passing back and forth between another girl. My daugher (along with other kids) was drawn in cartoon form as being shot, stabbed, burned in a house, and she said put in a tree chipper. The only thing my daughter did to this girl was to decide not to hang out with her in high school. Thank God for her decision to not be friends with this girl who was involved in drugs & sex. These two girls were suspended, then expelled, then involuntarily transferred to another school in our district.
The kids doing this were dumb enough to call our house the day they got suspended and make crank calls with caller id!! I'm happy to report that the mysterious egging of our house, the knocking over of our trash cans, the kids driving by our house at 4:00am in the morning and yelling(after they snuck out of their own homes) has stopped! It actually was scary for awhile.

In a few years, though,
those retards will be helping
elect democrats...

I'm sorry that happened to you. Rachel's situation is different. Her's was not aimed at anyone specific. Your daughter was targeted. I'm glad your family has gotten through this.

You just KNOW his kids don't bug him for bedtime stories! "I want Mom to tell us one!"

See? Dipshitry always finds its own level. Your daughter is obviously discriminating (but not discriminatory) in her choice of acquaintance. More power to her!

The story is about a student who falls asleep in class and has a dream that they shot a teacher and fled the room only to be killed by a guard. The bell rings and the student wakes up and goes to the next class. 5 literary people reviewed the story and said it was not a threat but a work of fiction.
This young lady used to live 20 minutes from Columbine so it is proabably a real dream. This is not a threat. Stephen King should get the death penalty.

There is an answer to people damaging your property, harassing you and your family, and threatening you.

Hannity dancing on the fence on this one.
Following the video release of the Colombine killers and all the posturing about how EVERYONE should have known, we now have a revelation about a student's imagining killing a teacher......
What to do, what to do!

professional scribes?
(2) So?! That means she might

Yes, that's an "answer."
But should we really shoot kids
for being stupid?
To: theFIRMbss
Of course you don't shoot kids, not for simple harassment and pranks!
I didn't say you had to fire the weapon, merely displaying it from the front porch will probably be sufficient enough to stop said harassment and destruction of property.
