Maybe they suspect their movies are already about to fail, and so they do things like this so they'll have someone else to blame... You couldn't have been more right. This thing is getting HORRIBLE reviews.

Just as a "sick-out" sometimes works better than a strike, perhaps there is a better strategy than boycotting a product as a means of protest.
The analogous act might be for folks to 'spread the word' about what a stinker of a product it is (each in a fashion attributable as their own opinion, so there's no room for legal argument). Thus, those who might be tempted to defy a boycott on principle might instead follow the advice of many 'critics' in staying away from "a stinker".
It's not a "whisper campaign" if you come right out and say you think "it stinks" - although I suppose you could call it a "whisper boycott"...
