That is surprising- if the skilled trades aren't going to worry about this, then their jobs will soon be gone to a $6.50 -an-hour electrician from Guadalajara and a plumber from Guyaquil.

I would say that the higher the skill level of the union member, the more likely he is to be a conservative and vote republican. I'd bet Arnolds 40% of the union vote came from the skilled trades. I work in a union machine shop making jet fighter parts and a huge number of us oppose illegal immigration and do not vote democratic.

A few weeks ago some of us had a talk with our local president over the AFL-CIO's support of an "Illegal Immigrant Freedom Ride". He agreed with us and said he would not give any of the locals money to this.
