Russia will soon call on the United Nations Security Council to adopt the road map as the accepted international plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Moscow also proposes that the Quartet (Russia, the UN, the European Union, and the U.S.) be acknowledged as a mediator in the dispute. The United States is expected to back the proposal, which should be approved without difficulty. Russia brought up the proposal several months ago, at which time Washington deferred support for it. Now, in view of Russia's support for Security Council resolutions on Iraq, the U.S. government is not inclined to oppose Russia's position on the road map.
Israel opposes the Russian proposal fearing that it would "internationalize" the dispute. Also, Israeli officials regard the acceptance of such a proposal under the current circumstances as a sign of support for Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat. Despite these reservations, Israel will not take steps against passage of the UN resolution.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon met with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer. The Bush administration wants Israel to ease pressure in the territories for humanitarian reasons. Washington also is asking Israel to allow freedom of movement in the territories in the hope that such measures will cultivate support for PA Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia (Abu Ala) as he consolidates his government.
A U.S. official said Wednesday that during the recent holiday period Israel typically beefs up security measures, "but after the Sukkot holiday, once again the question arises as to how the Palestinian population is to live - under tight security restrictions or with some relief."
The U.S. government is working closely with Abu Ala and quietly trying to help him. As the Americans see it, the key test of the new prime minister's authority will be his ability to unify and impose control over the PA's security branches.
Implementation of the road map plan will resume as soon as a responsible PA government takes hold, the official said.
The FBI team that is investigating last week's terror attack in the Gaza Strip in which three American security personnel were killed took another tour of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. It is too early to determine who carried out the bomb attack, the U.S. official said, but there is no doubt the strike was aimed against Americans. The FBI team wants the PA to clarify whether the people it detained after the attack are suspects or are being held and interrogated with the hope that they will point to real suspects.
On Thursday, an American team of experts on airportsecurity will begin examining Israel's plans to construct a security fence east of Ben-Gurion International Airport. The team will scrutinize Jerusalem's contention that the fence must be built east of the Beit Aryeh settlement in order to keep shoulder-launched missiles out of the airport's range.
Terror pays I guess.
Onward with the roadmap to yet another terror state on Israel's doorstep.
Israel can do what is right and destroy these terror groups and their brainwashing infrastructure. However, the US forbids Israel from doing so, because it wants its fake roadmap to "peace."
That is not but excuse of spineless Israeli leadership...no no we not want make unpopular decisions or risky ones, we blame Washington. Just do it, end of story. Most Christians in world will support, both in Russia and USA and then leaders not have choice. All those old bags of gas in Israeli government just use this for excuse.
How peacekeeper sent in if you say no? Hmm? UN going to invade? Please, that joke. Israel itself will let peacekeeper in...Arab Islamics take you apart one chunk at a time and kick you all the time and you no longer morally strong to stand up. Either fight or die but do one or other, this stupidity make for old show reruns...oh and hint: blowing up empty building....soooooo impressive...try making target bit more worthwhile, missiles not cheap.
Now there is no UN there between PLO terror areas and Israel. Israel has most of the favor of the US which blocks such moves which undermine Israeli soverignty.
Israel is not scared about fighting the Arabs. It has done so many times. The current leaders are scared they will lose the support of the US. That is why they don't tear up this roadmap. That is why Arafat is still breathing. That is why they never went on to finish killing off the aggressive Arab governments in the wars of 1948, 1967, 1973 and 1982.
Regarding East Timor, you are right Indonesia allowed them in. But the UN would have gone in with or without their permission.
Israel will not get away with this. The US will go against her in public if she does such a thing. You must remember that it was not until 1973 that the US started giving Israel aid. It had an arms embargo on Israel in 1948, when Israel was fighting off the Arabs!
However, there are exceptions. When Israel bombed the Iraqi atomic reactor in 1981, the whole world including the US criticized Israel. But in the end, the US did nothing to Israel.
Now there is no UN there between PLO terror areas and Israel. Israel has most of the favor of the US which blocks such moves which undermine Israeli soverignty.
That is thin gruel you live on. What happens when Bush not in office? What happens if American socialists take power? Or more Arab friendlies? You best cover own butt and worry what best for self and not count on other nations looking for you. I would also work on good relations with Russia and Serbia and Greece and Italy and India. Spread your chance better...beside with Russia you have 3 million Russian in Israel...think math...if each have average of 10 peoples who care about them still in Russia, that 30 million peoples, almost 1/4 country, that is powerful lobby...bigger then any in US.
And done what? Fight Indonesia? UN not entity, it not own own army. You think Pakistani/Indians (biggest contingent) want war with Indonesia? Or Australia for that matter?
