A bit like comparing apples & oranges.
But how long did this attack last. a minute or two not the hours the Liberty endured. And the following Swordfish pilots in the flight did recognize that it was the Sheffield. And held there fire.

>>> In the first attack, launched from the carrier Ark Royal on May 26 1940, Pattisson was mistakenly led down on the British cruiser Sheffield, which was shadowing Bismarck. But he recognized her silhouette and withheld his fire <<<

A aerial torpedo attack is different from the attack on the Liberty using guns & rockets. you are looking down and have a better view.

If the first elements of a flight rolled in and fired and it was over in a few sec. I would somewhat buy there story but not an attack that lasts hours.

But OK let’s take out the ID of the ship.
Why were the exact com. channels used by the US Navy jammed. Just another silly that just happend.
And The first volley just luckily hit all the commutations antennas.

According to the book “ Attack on the USS Liberty” It was attacked before there was a “War” going on.

Well I need to sign off for tonight. I’ll come back and play latter. Night all
