So why did he bring in Mariano in game 7 of the ALCS in a tie game? Ahhh, but that's game 7. All bets are off when it comes to game 7.

I've been a real Marlins fan for weeks now.LOL! That's longer than me.

I LOVE Jeter, Bernie Williams, and I don't hate the Yankees.

All bets are off when it comes to game 7. So who pitches the 11th for the Yankees (if Contreras gets out of this inning)? Do you think they'll go back to Contreras?

You can always go with Wells if you have to.
Look, this is managing 101. This is solid fundamental managing on Torre's part. Nothing questionable about this call at all.

Nice job by Contreras. He's still got gas in the tank next inning just in case the Yanks don't score here.
To: overtaxd
OUCH! Two of the best hitters go down swinging. Here comes the 11th inning.

Other than the windy game 6 performance in the ALCS, Jose Contreras has been solid in middle relief. He should be a solid number three starter next year (after Mussina/Pettitte, not necessarily in that order).

Please Luis, not another post about the World Series or the Yankees. That will just start another divisive thread on the subject of Yankee pitcher Jose Contreras and the unbelievably cruel political decision that has kept him apart from his family since he arrived here on a raft. I don't know how you feel, but after thousands of articles posted here on FR not to mention the thousands of editorials and 24/7 media feeding frenzy around the home where Contreras' children are staying with distant relatives frankly, I'm sick of the whole subject. Luckily, there are thousands on this forum who passionately care about father's rights and understand that family reunification must always trump political considerations. It's not surprising the Contreras family tragedy has become a household topic of conversation across the country, thanks to the relentless media coverage that will not end until Contreras is finally reunited with his family. I'm pleased to see that the National Council of Churches and Archer Daniels Midland are once again working unselfishly behind the scenes to reunite the Contreras family.
We all know how hard Fidel Castro worked just a few years ago to reunite a 6-year-old boy and his father. We all know how much support he received from true patriots like Bill Clinton and Janet Reno and a non-politicized INS. We are all familiar with Cuba's stellar record on human rights issues like family reunification. Obviously, a huge supporter of father's rights such as Castro cannot be responsibile for Contreras' estrangement from his family in Cuba. It seems to me that the fault lies with Yankee owner George Steinbrenner and manager Joe Torre. Those two are obviously acting as dupes for the extremist anti-anti-Communists in Little Havana.
There's only one man who can help reunite Contreras and his family.
Who's gonna make the call?

They need to move that right field wall in some so they don't lose so many fair balls in that dark corner!

Nothing questionable about this call at all. You're probably right. Go Bernie! He may have moved ahead of Matsui for series MVP thus far. If Matsui drives Bernie in, Matsui snatches it right back.

So why did he bring in Mariano in game 7 of the ALCS in a tie game?Simple. The Yankees were playing that game at home. When the Yankees are on the road, and start the bottom of any extra inning tied, they need no less than 6 outs to win the game.

When they get a run, I guarantee you'll see Rivera.
