Their only tactic to deter Israel is to perform military exercises until the Israeli military is laughing so hard that they fall to the ground, grabbing their stomachs. This will render them incapacitated. Those arabs can be very sneaky.

"He is threatening to use SADDAM's WMDs."

I never hear this option on TV......that Iraq just transferred the WMD's to Iran Syria, etc.

This seems so obvious to me, yet no talking head mentions this possibility.

In 1950 the Syrian Navy was established following the procurement of a few naval craft from France.

Ya know, I'm struck by how often France has a hand in arming these bastards, Iraq, Iran, Syria, etc.
French missles, French ships, French nuclear plants.

"Syria is capable of creating a balance that would deter Israel and put an end to its aggressive adventures"

... for at least 10 minutes, anyway. After that, I recommend that they run like hell.

Syrian army chief says Damascus capable of deterring Israel

By The Associated Press

Damascus is capable of creating a power balance
that would deter Israel and respond to its
"aggressive adventures," the Syrian armed forces
chief of staff said Wednesday. He also accused the
United States of "unlimited" support of Israel.

General Hassan Turkmany was
speaking at a naval force
graduation ceremony. The
speech, his third in a week,
echoed similar charges made
by Syrian officials since
Israel attacked what it said
was a Palestinian base deep
in Syria on Oct. 5. "Day after day the world is further convinced
that Israel doesn't want peace. Syria is
capable of creating a balance that would deter
Israel and put an end to its aggressive
adventures," the official Syrian Arab News
Agency quoted Turkmany as saying.

"Syria has restrained itself and lodged a
complaint with the UN Security Council to give
way for international legality, but not this
was not out of inability to respond," he said.

The Israeli air attack on a camp Syria says was
long-abandoned came a day after a suicide
bombing by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad
militant group killed 20 people in Haifa,
Israel.

"What encouraged Israel to be stubborn and
continue its aggressive course is the unlimited
financial, military and political support
offered by the U.S. President George Bush and
his administration's rightist staff," Turkmany
said.

Turkmany also reiterated his earlier urging for
the armed forces to be ready to confront any
new attacks by the Jewish state.

"You should have the highest level of discipline
and preserve the highest level of readiness to
carry out orders in order to increase the
fighting capability of the valiant armed
forces," SANA quoted him as saying.

He is threatening to use WMDs.

That would be a VERY BAD move for Syria ... there wouldn't be anyone left when the IDF finished with them if they got a warhead in and knocked out Haifa or Tel Aviv.

Syria had 45,000 Jews in 1948. They had prospered under the Turks and the French, but when the Arabs took over, they at once became the target for both official and unofficial violence. Anti-Jewish legislation froze bank accounts and confiscated property. New laws forbade Jews to sell their property or move more than three miles from their homes. Special identity cards were issued to them, and they were allowed to work only at certain jobs. Government employees and military personnel were forbidden to patronize Jewish shops. Today there are fewer than 4,000 Jews in Syria, and they are under constant attack. Syria 1948: 45,000 Jews, Syria 1973: 4,000 Jews.

Yeah, right.

"Imagine this F-15 flying 50 meters above Assad's palace at 1 a.m. in the morning, with all of is thrusters directed exactly over the palace and no one even detected it until it was over the palace. This is embarrassing not to mention unpleasant," the senior officer said with a chuckle.

Knock, knock!

even an f16 on afterburners, breaking the sonic barrier over the palace would take out most if not all of the windows.
