Arthur Jr converted (Unitarian or Episcopalian I think), to my knowledge Sr never did. It's fair to say any Jewish "identity" or concern about Jewish issues has been a myth for generations.

Yes, but I read an account of Salzberger on his trip to Israel bristling at the suggestion that he was Jewish.

The families were Jewish --- just like that of Karl Marx. But if one converts out and is indignant about that, I belief it's safe to say he is not Jewish.
