But as soon as Arafat appointed a supposedly moderate figurehead he jumped at the chance to start negotiating and pressuring Israel to make concssions. This despite the fact that there never was any real change in the leadership, and no real steps were taken to dismantle the terrorist infrastructe that is the PA.
This pattern will be repeated over and over again as long as Bush continues to listen to the foriegn policy establishment. He needs to buck them the way Reagan bucked them to win the cold war. A good place to start would be getting rid of Colin Powell and replacing him with Newt Gingrich. Hopefully Powell will quit after next year's election.
