California Democratic Party officials announced Tuesday that the state's fastest-growing voting bloc -- independents -- will be allowed to cast ballots in the party's March 2 presidential primary. Voters who "decline to state" a party or who register as some political affiliation other than the seven recognized parties in California will be eligible to choose the Democratic nominee for president next year.

The state party's executive board has decided to let independents cast ballots in the Democratic presidential primary in March, Chairman Art Torres said Tuesday.

Then just maybe I'll vote for Al Sharpton.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'd love to set them up with a real winner like big Al.

In 2000, however, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the state's blanket primary

Democrats chose not to wait. The state party's executive board has decided to let independents cast ballots in the Democratic presidential primary in March

"As part of our outreach and effort to defeat Bush, we are putting out the welcome mat to California independents,"

In other words, the SC said no, so they're doing it anyway because they didn't like the answer. They're going to just ignore the law.
It sounds like they're a dieing breed, so they're trying to grab votes in desperation, be it legal or illegal - In what was once the liberal mecca of the U.S!
Well, this is good news.

Actually, they're within the law if they as a party are allowing outsiders to vote in their primary. It's just the attempt to force that on every party, whether they want it or not, which was struck down. Voting in the Democrat primary is fine with me, since independents such as myself will do our best to fix them up with a great candidate.
