General Motors displays a advanced technology vehicle 'Hy-wire' at a press preview of the Tokyo Motor Show 2003 in Makuhari, east of Tokyo October 22, 2003. The Hy-wire represents the world's first drivable vehicle that combines a hydrogen fuel cell with by-wire technology.

I admit that I am a complete idiot but what in the world is by-wire technology?

in an airplane it means the control stick is not connected to the control surfaces. I assume it means the steering wheel column is not actually in contact with the wheels, but that it tells the wheels to turn 'by wire' and little motors make them turn.

or nah, maybe the hydrogen produces electricity and sends it by wire to the motors that make the vehicle go, hydrogen not touching the actual motors.... but that would be an electric car...
