I'm a bit confused. News everywhere is reporting that they have started fluids last night. (which makes sense, being an RN I know they wouldn't start feeding food yet, which would shock her system.) Why are they reporting this if it is not so?

Beats me, I'm confused too. Terri's site only says that she will be "receiving proper attention immediately" but they really don't say if she actually HAS begun to get fluids.

This morning on a 540 WFLA in Orlando, A local talk show host was reporting that Michael Schiavo has forbidden Terri's family from seeing Terri at all and they are not allowed to get any medical updates. Said it was AP breaking news story but i cant find anything, maybe some other freeper's can verify.

I'm assuming they transported her last night to the ICU, started IV fluids with electrolytes, brought her glucose levels under control, ran some blood labs to get a picture of how much damage was done to liver and kidneys, and will start antibiotics if needed, as well as any other medications to get her body prepared to accept food again. They probably have her on a heart monitor and are watching her heart very closely, as she may have such an electrolyte imbalance (potassium and salt) that her heart may be effected too. As soon as she is rehydrated, which may take quite a few days, they may start feeding her, but with rehydration, they can give her nutrition through the IV in the form of minerals ect. Poor Terri. This girl has been through so much I cannot fathom it. I would be honored to be her nurse. (thought about flying down there but couldn't) The above comments are my opinion only. I am a long term care/ med surg nurse, not an ICU nurse.
