"Boone is married to a Playboy centerfold."

This must surely be a feat far more impressive than his homer against the Red Sox....

HEY -- BERNIE GOES DEEP FOR MORE INSURANCE!

There were two Negro League teams playing on a ML level in the 1940s (KC Monarchs, Homestead Grays).

So do they bring Mariano back out? The less the Marlins see him, the better, but considering they scored eight runs with 1 out in an inning makes me think it's more important to slam the door on them.

I think Ichiro's winning the ROY was just as absurd quite frankly, but a rule is a rule....

So Mo can still get the save, even with a 5-run lead? Is that because he came in while it was less than a 3-run lead?

A home run to dead center there is more impressive than a racked blond.

Spoken like a satisfied man. Heh, heh.

I can't stand Joe Buck - ever since his "homering" when the Giants beat the Cards last fall. He sounded like he was attending a funeral while the Giants were celebrating.

Gee, I guess that could have been because the fact he lost his father last season, and on top of that DK died just days later.
There was a lot of emotion involved in hoping the Cardinals could win it all in honor of two great men.

I happen to like Joe...I heard his first ever broadcast all those years ago....I can't stand Tim though.

Ichiro was more deserving of a MVP, actually.

Buck kept telling us the Marlins had only lost 5 games at home since August. That stat rises 20% tonight.

I think he still gets the save.

Conine gets a hit.

This goes back to The Stadium, at least.

I think Torre needs to take Rivera out after this batter.

We have tomorrow and Thursday.

Just lurking on the thread tonight but I thought I'd interject that Jackie Robinson was the first ever Rookie of the Year and he was a 28 year old who was a veteran of the Negro League. I think the Negro Leagues of the 1940's and before were more comparable to the major league baseball of that time than Japenese Baseball is now. If Robinson deserved to win the award (and he did), Matsui deserves to win the award. Just a little perspective here.

Good post. And didn't zillion-year-old Satchel Paige win Rookie of the Year once? Besides, Ichiro and Sasaki have also gotten the Rookie of the Year award, so Matsui would not be the first Japanese player to do so.

I believe Ichiro was both ROY and MVP that year.

Buck kept saying that this park had the least amount of homers in it in the majors..... Yanks have two in their first game there.....

Satchel was either 47 or 51 when he pitched in 1948.

And there were several in the Cubs series, too, as I recall.
