Despite the widespread belief that the California recall election went off without a hitch, researchers examining the votes after the fact found that 384,000 ballots had no vote recorded on the question of whether Gov. Gray Davis should be recalled.

A majority of those "missing" votes came from counties using the notorious punch card ballot machines - the same faulty machines that 65 percent of Missourians continue to use. Is Missouri setting itself up to be next in line in the ongoing saga of Election Day controversy and messy litigation?

That was a great touch, the DNC sending Daley's little bro down to teach the FL 'rats how to punch out the Gore hole on stacks of ballots.

I worry most that either side or both will totally disbelieve the results of a close election. A Hellary/Clark ticket that's within 1% of Bush on election night, with cities turning in late "touchscreen" results, could turn the cold civil war hot. The important thing to keep in mind is that if the electorate loses confidence in the validity of the voting process, they may do very irrational things.

The scene at the Miami govt office where the 'rats were carrying the ballot boxes to a quiet dark room to count very nearly turned violent. Imagine that scene in 10 cities, with large mobs on both sides, when some nervous security guards pull guns and tell the crowds to back off while the counting is done privately...

And with touch screens, WHAT do you count? Used electrons?

I've used punch cards before.

Although now we use scantron(Fill in the circle like a multiple choice test).

Our goal for '04 is to make the election so lop-sided that there can be no debate.

While some generally conservative people continue to fucus on the issues that President Bush has not 'fixed' yet, the Administration is effecting a lot of change below the radar, so to speak.

Investigating the Mayor of Philadelphia or the whole City Council of Baltimore, for example, could never happen without a Republican Administration.

I think a lot of attention is also being paid to voters' lists, registration practices, etc. We are not seeing press conferences announcing what is being accomplished.
