If it is ever to be, I'd rather sooner than later. I'm not getting any younger. The longer we can stave it off, the more time some kids have a chance to grow up and come to age. I fear though, that the longer it festers, the worse the eventual eruption may be.

I would argue that the agents for social change, as we might put it, have done their homework and are content to nibble here, and nibble there, a little bit at a time. Or, How To Boil A Frog. In fact, it is probably in their best interests NOT to have a shooting war or civil war or anything of the sort. Why buy the cow when you can have the milk for free?
Consider just one example, that "gay" marriage could NEVER have been contemplated, much less mentioned in public, in any sane society, unless and until the conventional institution itself had been de facto destroyed through wholesale dilution of traditional morals to begin with. Children had to be indoctrinated, and "tolerance" of homosexuals in society must be accomplished, and legal restrictions of buggery abolished, &c. &c.
This presupposes some sort of organized long range, obviously. I've read stuff from the 1960's which posited that rape and much violence in general, was primarily caused by "uptight" sexual morals imposed upon our society. Why, all we had to do was surrender to "free love" and all that rubbish, and everything will be fine.
The real irony is that much, if not all, of the indoctrination is done on our dime - parents spend their hard earned dollars to send their children off to be educated, and in return get good little subversives in return.
