Two possible scenarios at work here: 1) Erase the country's history and then re-write, PC-style; and 2) "Hey, if it don't affect my paycheck or my retirement, I ain't worried 'bout it..." Number 1 may be a little paranoid, but Number 2 is definitely in play here...

Not really. Do some genealogical research for records 1860-1890 for Southern ancestors. It seems that an awful lot of Southern courthouses burned - I wonder why?
