If it's of any help in talking to Florida lawmakers, callers might mention this comparison:

A team of top doctors in Dallas, Texas just amazed the world by separating those conjoined Egyptian twins. People in the Middle East watched with intense interest, and they learned that American generosity and goodwill to all still inspires us. The many doctors and medical people who took part in this historic operation volunteered their time and skills, in the highest traditions of American values and know-how.

In contrast, Florida has just announced to the world that it is a moral cesspool, by condemining a helpless, innocent woman to a cruel death -- all in the name of "law." This sends the opposite message to anyone of moral sensibility.

Which is it going to be, the Florida way or the Dallas way? What are we going to tell the world about ourselves? That we are the kind of people who bend over backwards to help the helpless, as they did in Dallas? Or that we are such barbarians that we would legally murder a young woman, just because she is hurt or inconvenient, as they are doing in Florida?

I sent an email to the entire list and to date I have heard from 21 (auto-responses) but at least I am on record as registering my strong regret at their action so far.
