These promises have been made in the past maybe they are finally going to come true.

Well, I'm glad to hear this, Hondo. I'm rated 50% disabled, but none of my little hurts are combat-related. I don't care much if I get any money, I'm doing ok, but those guys who got maimed in combat or combat exercises, it's about damn time they got something a little xtra from their country. We can give free everything to illegals when they come here, even though many of them have contempt for our way of life, but we deny the real defenders a reward for their service. I hope this is true also.

I think it is great that this finally happened. It was really a shame that these veterans had to PAY for their own disability. I think they paid for it enough already.

Concurrent Pay needs to be made law this year, it is way way overdue.

I truly pray this goes through! It may be too late for some folks, but at least the rest can live with a bit more dignity.

I'll believe it when the Pesident puts his "john hanncock" on it. It has to pass the house and gutless senate. Besides when has congress ever kept their word to the vets!
I an at 60% and and ssd [100%] my wife had to go back to work and we have 2 kids, [one age 9 & one age 6 (with Down Syndrome)]I am now the "stay at home parent" and it is very hard getting paid like we do. The va is just as political as any other dept. They have to justify their jobs to stay there.
Yes I am very angery about the va, and unless we a drastic change in leadership, the policy will never change!

Thanks, Hondo!
Congress and the Bush administration have agreed to a $22.1 billion deal over 10 years that will pare back dramatically a century-old ban on ``concurrent receipt'' of both military retired pay and tax-free disability compensation for injuries or illnesses traced to time in service. Up to 200,000 disabled retirees with 20 or more years of service, including reserve and National Guard annuitants, will see their incomes rise, for many by hundreds or even thousands of dollars a month. The deal, expected to be passed as part of the 2004 defense authorization bill, targets combat-related disabled and the most severely disabled with non-combat injuries or illnesses.
Overdue care for our Veterans, ping!

I have a ten percent disability rating and am one of those left out of this, but I am very pleased that those with severe disabilities are at long last going to be treated equally with Civil Service Retirees, with Military disabilities. I reccomend accepting what is being made available at this time for those who have suffered the most, rather than penalizing them because we of much lesser disabilities are not included.
Maybe next time for us, and next time may come sooner than we expect, after the politicians see how little it really costs to do the right thing.
