I've been a Yankee fan since before I was born. It's true. My father is such a hardcore Yankee fan that he's genes predisposed me to being a Yankee fan. I first went to Yankee Stadium when I was 5 years old. Bat Day, 1976. And have rooted for them my entire life. I remember "Mr. October". I also remember the brutality of the 80's and the strong teams we had the couldn't get passed the hump. (For this reason I was torn about the 3 division, wildcard change in the early 90's. The whole tradition vs. fairness stuff).

Anyway. Last nights game was a microcosm of the Yankees as I know them. I've been there for the low times; the 80's (and the first 5 innnings of last nights game); the "almost there times in the late 80's early 90's (Giambi hitting his second homerun and Boomer giving up that dinger to Ortiz); and the dynasty times since 1996 (the incredible comeback, Boone's homerun remeniscient of Brocious' heroics).

I have to say that last nights game was one of the greatest Playoff games in history.

I thought it was goo, evenly matched. Would have liked to have seen Roger last longer, but it was great to see a bullpen rise to the occasion. I am actually looking forward to watching the Yanks/Marlins.

I've been a Yankees fan since somewhere around 1945, although I admit that these days I usually don't follow basefall until they get into the playoffs.

I just reviewed the ESPN expert prediction page. 18 ESPN baseball 'experts' made their predictions for all the series outcomes just prior to the postseason. NOT ONE got the World Series matchup correct. Only one of them had the Marlins even advancing out of the NLDS, and even he picked the Cubs over the Marlins. TEN of them had the Red Sox advancing to the World Series, compared to five thinking the Yankees would make it. And finally, seven of them had the Cubs advancing to the World Series.

It all just goes to show you that even the most informed and involved baseball people can't predict this game with any accuracy.

What a ball game. 5 to 2 till the 8th inning! Giambi's 2 dingers, Clemens walks off the field maybe for good.., Mussina, Jeter's one handed "bunt", Boone pulls a Bucky Dent bottom of the 10th!

Sounds just like my story. My dad took me in 1974 when they played at Shea. My Dad was a Yankee fan since he was 7 years old, 1940. Since my dad passed, I will keep the tradition and pass it on to my daughter because to me that is what they are a family tradition.
