Great series! I wish the Sox came out ahead of course. But there is no shame on either team! I will root for the Yankees against the Marlins!

Next year though!

Forgot to mention that my predictions at the beginning of the game were not too bad. I predicted Clemens-Wells-Mussina. Those three did pitch, but not in that order. I also predicted Bernie Williams would have the biggest impact in the game. That's probably not the case, but I do see that he drove in the first run in that 8th inning rally, so you could make a case that he sparked the comeback. And I predicted that Wakefield's first batter would be the turning point in the game. I wasn't exactly correct -- it was Wakefield's first batter in the 11th.

Still, I came about as close as anybody possibly could to predicting a game like THIS. Considering that I need the money, I will happily take bribes to predict World Series game outcomes, to the highest bidder. ;)

How was the " after show ", on YES ? I'm on vacation, where there's NO availability to YES and had to make do with ESPN. :-(

It was pretty good -- they interviewed Boone and Giambi in the YES studio, and interviewed a bunch of other Yankees in the clubhouse. Giambi said he got stuck in traffic today due to the watermain break in Washington Heights, and had to get a police escort to the game!

If it makes you feel any better, most Yankees interviewed seemed to be pretty impressed with the Sox. It certainly was no cakewalk series -- your team really battled.

If you are a lifelong Cubs fan, then I should pray for you, I think! Haha!

Actually, entertain this for a second. I was talking in the other thread about the power of ritual and how it impacts real life.

Millions of fans saw that happen in the NLCS Game 6.

Consciously, adults don't believe in curses, supernatural, etc. Your subconsious mind, though, has roughly the maturity level of a six or sevem year old. To a large extent, it still beleives in magic, wizards, santa, etc.

As far as the subconsious mind goes, the second that hapless fan got in the way, the curse 'happend,' and at some level, they were off the hook (in other words, the blame for the loss subconsiosly would not be on them, but on the curse.)

This psychic energy was felt by the players, fans in attendance, and fans worldwide. Everybody was thinking the same thing - "Uh oh! We can't win!"

This sends though-energy waves through the universe. Once 'off the hook,' the Cubs fulfilled the destiny - their subconsious minds accepted the fact that the curse was real, happening, and keeping them from winning.

At a subconsious level, they were already beaten. An 8 run inning? Gee...

This is a very real phenomena, and there is lots of literature on it, though it is esoteric and not exactly scientific. I am a beliver in it though - I have programmed my mind for many things, many of which have manifested. It isn't black magic, or magic at all. The power of creation (in our lives) is encoded within us. The good news: A strong belief, backed up by effort, pays great dividends. The bad news: too many of these strong beliefs are negative and don't help us, but manifest in life just the same.

I train people to be positive about their lives - it's my career. I really like it. Eliminating limiting beliefs is the first step towards success. Sadly, most people go to their graves never reaching their potential, because they had a network of limiting, negative beliefs keeping them back.

One other thing -- Bobby Murcer had to wear one of the ALCS championship hats on his head, as David Wells poured champagne on his head during a post-game interview on the field!

Your points are well-taken, and I agree with them.

What irritated me about the Cubs is that by denying the curse, Dusty tP5{ere isn't any baggage in Cubland. Complete BS, and everybody, including the players, knows it, which IMHO made the apocalypse of the last 2 games possible.

One of the things Dallas Green did in 1984 was admit to the baggage and say that he was determined to overcome it. They lost a few in a row before clinching their first divisional title, and he referred to exorcising the ghost of 1969 during that time.

So Dallas Green took them to the next step at least.

Dusty got them one step further (winning some kind of series for the first time in 95 years). But he could have, should have done something when the storm clouds gathered after that foul ball. As I recall, he didn't even visit his pitcher after the walk. A manager has to do SOMETHING to neutralize the situation. But I guess it was more important to him to pretend there wasn't a problem brewing (after all, to do so would be to acknowledge the curse's existence). A bitter disappointment.

Frankly, he should also have challenged their manhood bigtime before Game 7. My guess is he did nothing. Then again, Sammy probably did nothing, Karros probably did nothing, Wood probably did nothing, etc, etc,

It was a great series! Thanks. I would be more sad if the Cubs were in the series. The Yankees came back to win. A great win for New York. A sad lose for us.

I'm actually on the West Coast at the moment.

Incidentally, did anyone record game 7 on DVD? I'd be willing to pay $50 for that (can play it on my laptop). Email me if you can help. I would really love to see the whole game, even though I know how it turned out.

Incidentally, I forgot to mention that on the game 6 live thread I said I expected Mariano Rivera to go 3 innings if necessary. I'm telling you, I've never been so accurate in my life. But to be fair, as I was preparing my dinner prior to game 7, I said out loud to myself 'I think the Sox will take this one in a squeaker. Hate to say it, but that's my prediction.' So I can't pick them all. I was right about the squeaker part though.

I have a history of not being able to watch gut-wrenching parts of games that threaten to put the Yankees in a deep hole or eliminate them. I turned the TV off in 2001 before BOTH of the two-run home runs off Kim against Arizona. I'm far too rational to say that this affected the outcome of the game. It was just bizarre. And I'm perfectly happy to watch those plays I missed on SportsCenter as long as my favored team wins. I guess my theory is, if they win, great! If they lose, well, I didn't waste my time and the lining of my stomach watching it.

That said, I watched ALL of game 7 of the 2001 series. Maybe I should have turned the TV off as Mariano came to the mound...;)

I must say that Pedro did a very classy thing. I just saw SportsCenter's recap of the game and they showed Pedro being interviewed. He didn't blame Grady, and said he took full responsibility for the pitches he made. I came around on Clemens (and not just because he became a Yankee, but because he just plain grew up). I may come around on Pedro. I give credit where credit is due. Both teams can hold their heads high -- they settled it on the field in the RIGHT way.

What is it with all these "B"'s. Bucky, Buckner, the Babe, billgoats, Boone and Bartman.

You forgot beanball, Brian (Cashman, for the Boone trade), Bernie (for driving in the first run in the 8th inning comeback), and Baker (Dusty, for inspiring Torre to use three starters, and inspiring Little to leave Pedro in too long).

Oh, and Joe Buck, of course. The third 'Buck'.

Of course, those who hate the Yankees purely for having and spending more money, the main 'B' is also a Buck: "More bucks (as in dollars)".

But above it all, when it comes down to it, the important 'B' here is baseball.

There, I've had my Bob Costas moment. We now return you to your regularly scheduled game thread.

I missed most of the good part of the game.

You and me both. Only I missed everything from the beginning of the 7th on. See my earlier posts a few dozen replies up. No matter, SportsCenter is showing the highlights several times. Good enough for me.
