All well and good- but how about the point I made above? Let's stipulate that what you posted is correct, that her brain is that gone.

Why not go in and killer her now? It would be cheaper. It would free up the bed. It would be more humane than letting her starve to death over a period of weeks-- if not more humane for her then more humane for her parents.

It is a repulsive idea; see how Ciexyz reacted to it- so adversely that my entire point was lost in the very concept.

Something in our humanity tells us that would be wrong to do.

And unless someone can make a case as to why starving someone is somehow morally superior to suffocating someone, we shouldn't act like it is.

What is being done to this woman is wrong.

As a Catholic, I will try to answer that question, although you might not find it satisfactory.

If I develop a Permanent Vegetative State, I have asked my wife to remove any feeding tubes.

I have not asked my wife to snuff me.

Although my Catholic conscience will allow me to starve to death, I will consider a sin any extreme accelleration of death.

I'm assuming the Schiavos are Catholic, since the Catholic Church has issued statements on this specific case.
